A framed advertising poster for Martini, Italy, circa 1970. Marcello Dudovich was one of the most prolific and important Italian poster artists. In a career spanning over half a century he designed more than 600 posters in a career that spanned over half a century. This outstanding Martini poster was designed in the 1930’s and such was its popularity that it was still being used in the 1950’s. It was produced for the Martini & Rossi alcoholic beverage company.

The poster features a well dressed, elegant woman in a long dress and large hat. She is holding a glass of Martini toasting her companion who is not part of the poster. The Martini bottle, whose label is meticulously reproduced, is standing on the round table she is leaning on along with a second full glass of Martini. A wonderfully designed poster by a much sought after artist.

Together with Leonetto Cappiello, Adolfo Hohenstein, Giovanni Maria Mataloni and Leopoldo Metlicovitz, he is considered one of the progenitors of Italian poster design.
