One of the most popular and sought after of Louis Vuitton trunks is the gentleman’s wardrobe finished in cowhide leather. Dating to the early part of the 20th century, these coverings were custom orders with Louis Vuitton, made from a single sheet of the finest leather available. With hangers to one side and compartments to the other, brass hardware, it oozes elegance and quality whether displayed open or closed, a wonderful piece of interior design and conversation piece for any room, both modern or traditional. This particular model has had a removable custom fitted interior to the right hand side with an unusual (if not unique) folding compartment to the bottom section of that interior for hats. Most likely a one-off piece, this trunk shows exquisite colour, suppleness and patination to the leather exterior to this day, despite it being over a century old. Another lovely quirk of this trunk is the wood slats to one of the sides which allows the option of laying the trunk horizontal if need be.

Condition: some scuffs and marks as can be expected with normal/light use. Two of the leather straps on the side of the interior fitting to the right hand side do not stretch far enough to close properly although they are present, suggesting possible shrinking of the leather straps. Possible a very old leather repair to one of the edges.

Dimensions: 113cm high, 57cm wide, 55cm deep
