A parchment clad thermos flask by Aldo Tura for Macabo, Italy, 1940s
Elegant thermos flask designed by the Italian cabinetmaker, decorator, and designer Aldo Tura (1909–1963) and produced by the company Macabo, dating to the 1940s. The thermos is constructed around a wooden structure covered in parchment and finished with metal accents, such as at the mouth and the slender handle. On the underside, it bears the black mark of the manufacturer: "Cusano Milano Macabo Italy."
The rounded shapes, with its exquisitely elegant parchment exterior, blend harmoniously with the gleaming gold-toned metal accents, presenting an image worthy of one of the greatest names in Italian design, fully embodying the Art Deco spirit.
The renowned master of Art Deco and Italian modernism excelled in creating unique luxury furniture and accessories, always distinguished by a strong preference for "rich" materials combined with exclusive artisanal techniques. Many of his works have become true collector’s items, particularly pieces like these, finished in goatskin or parchment in bold colours such as yellow, green, and red.
Aldo Tura remained faithful to artisanal craftsmanship, steadfastly avoiding industrial processes and large-scale production. This dedication has resulted in a limited number of his pieces available on the market today, further enhancing their rarity and desirability.
