A silvered metal Ligne 2 lighter with vertical engine-turned decoration by S.T. Dupont, France, late 20th century
A finely crafted S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 lighter, made in France in the late 20th century, representing the brand’s evolution toward a slightly broader, more solidly proportioned form compared to the earlier Ligne 1. Executed in silvered metal, the body is decorated with alternating vertical bands of polished and engine-turned (guilloché) texture, creating a refined striped pattern that plays subtly with light.
The design is both architectural and tactile, with the vertical ribbing lending a fluted, almost textile-like rhythm across the surface. The wider stance and gently rounded edges of the Ligne 2 model give it a more substantial presence in the hand, while maintaining Dupont’s signature elegance. The ribbed ignition roller and hinged cap function with the maison’s renowned precision, producing the distinctive clear “ping” upon opening.
The underside is engraved “S.T. Dupont – Paris – Made in France” with a serial number, confirming authenticity. This piece exemplifies late 20th-century French luxury design, restrained, impeccably engineered, and focused on material quality and finish rather than overt embellishment. A classic and highly collectible Ligne 2 model, prized for its proportions, craftsmanship, and enduring design.
