A “The Royal and Ancient Game of Golf” silk scarf by Ledoux, France, late 20th century
An iconic Hermès silk carré titled “The Royal and Ancient Game of Golf”, designed by Ledoux and dedicated to the history and heritage of golf. The design beautifully illustrates scenes from early golf in Scotland, including period players in traditional dress, military figures, carriages, early transport, and pastoral landscapes. At the centre is a quatrefoil medallion motif, surrounded by detailed vignettes celebrating the sport’s origins.
The scarf features a vibrant yellow border with black and white check detailing, golf clubs and balls framing the composition, and heraldic emblems including references to historic golf clubs such as St Andrews and Blackheath. The fine line work and storytelling detail are characteristic of Hermès’ exceptional craftsmanship and Ledoux’s illustrative style.
Crafted in 100% silk twill with hand-rolled edges, this piece embodies the timeless elegance and collectability associated with Hermès scarves. Presented with its original Hermès Paris box.
