A small revolving bar sideboard, Italy, 1960s
A stylish and highly functional Italian small sideboard incorporating a concealed revolving bar cabinet, dating to the 1960s. Combining clean mid-century lines with an ingenious mechanical design, the piece serves as both an elegant storage cabinet and a fully fitted cocktail bar.
Raised on tapering ebonised legs with brass-capped feet, the cabinet features a revolving central section concealed behind a decorative veneered façade. When closed, the piece presents as a refined compact sideboard, adorned with a stylised dinnerware executed in contrasting veneers. Rotating the central section reveals a fitted drinks cabinet, complete with shaped compartments designed to accommodate bottles, decanters, and glassware.
The interior is finished in a warm golden tone, creating an attractive contrast with the darker exterior and enhancing the theatrical effect of the revolving mechanism. This combination of practicality, craftsmanship, and playful innovation is characteristic of Italian furniture design of the period.
Compact in scale yet highly decorative, the piece is equally suited to use as a drinks cabinet, small sideboard, or accent piece, making it ideal for both contemporary and mid-century interiors.
Condition: good overall, with light wear consistent with age and use, including minor marks, scuffs, and surface imperfections to the veneers and lacquered elements. The revolving mechanism operates smoothly and the interior remains well preserved. Please refer to the photographs.
