A walnut and rosewood sideboard, England, circa 1960

£1,195.00

A wonderful and very rare mid century sideboard, made in England around the 1960s. The rarity is in the detail and it shows British cabinetmaking at its finest and most adventurous. The sideboard is made out of two types of wood: Brazilian rosewood for the drawers to the middle, walnut to the rest of the piece. The long sideboard features striking zebrano/zebra walnut front, cool sculpted wood drawer pulls, recessed door handles and H-style legs. Although the sideboard looks perfectly symmetrical, the “tromp l’oeil“ stack of drawers to the right hand side are a disguised sliding door, giving the illusion of symmetry when the doors are closed and maintaining the precious cupboard space which the sideboards of the period were intended for.

As can be seen from the stamp at the back, this delightful and long sideboard bears the stamp RHF (Royal Heritage Furniture) with a production date of 15 February 1966 and was designed by Elliots of Newbury (EON). EON Furniture has been noted for many years for its sound construction and excellent design. Functional, beautiful and stylish, it is a wonderful piece of mid century design that would add a little retro chic to any interior.

Condition: a tiny piece of the faux drawers (sliding door) is missing but almost impossible to spot unless attention is drawn to it, otherwise very good vintage condition. Please refer to photographs.
