An illuminating goatskin bar cabinet by Aldo Tura, Italy, 1950s
A striking mid-century illuminated bar cabinet designed by Aldo Tura and produced in Italy during the 1950s. The sculptural, chalice-shaped form is finished in richly lacquered parchment goatskin with beautiful natural tonal variations. The front door is decorated with a classical-style scene and mounted with ornate gilt brass hinges and escutcheon.
The interior is fitted with mirrored panels and curved glass shelves, designed to display decanters and glasses to dramatic effect. When illuminated, the cabinet creates a warm ambient glow that enhances both the glassware and the surrounding space. The top features a removable gilt brass gallery tray with pierced decorative detailing, adding both elegance and practicality.
Aldo Tura (1909–1963) was one of Italy’s most distinctive mid-century designers, celebrated for his luxurious use of materials such as lacquered parchment, goatskin, and richly finished veneers combined with brass and refined detailing. His work, produced in Milan, is known for its sculptural silhouettes and glamorous presence, bridging traditional craftsmanship with modernist design. Today, Tura’s pieces are highly sought after for their originality and unmistakable Italian sophistication.
Condition: very good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age and use. Minor marks and patina to the brass elements and some natural variation to the lacquered goatskin finish. The interior lighting functions correctly but we would recommend rewiring. Please refer to photographs.
Dimensions: 129cm high, 55cm diameter
