A Birillo table lamp or floor lamp, Murano, Italy, 1970s
An iconic “birillo“ table lamp produced in Murano, Italy, during the 1970s, celebrated for its bold sculptural form and vibrant Space Age aesthetic. The design combines a striking hand-blown orange Murano glass base with an elegant white opaline glass diffuser, separated by a brushed metal collar that accentuates the lamp's distinctive silhouette.
The lamp takes its name from its resemblance to a bowling pin (birillo in Italian), a playful yet refined form that became synonymous with the futuristic design language of the 1970s. The vivid orange glass base glows beautifully when illuminated, while the opaline diffuser emits a soft, warm light, creating an inviting ambient atmosphere.
Expertly handcrafted using traditional Murano glassmaking techniques, the lamp is a fine example of Venetian artistry combined with the innovative forms that defined Italian lighting design during the Space Age. Both highly functional and sculptural, it serves equally well as atmospheric lighting and as a striking decorative object.
Condition: presented in excellent vintage condition, with the glass free from chips, cracks or repairs. The lamp retains its original twin pull-cord switches, allowing the illuminated base and upper diffuser to be operated independently or together, and remains in full working order.
