A Murano glass table lamp, Italy, 1970s

£395.00

A striking Murano glass table lamp dating to the 1970s, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship and artistic glassmaking traditions for which the Venetian island remains renowned. Sculptural and highly decorative, the lamp combines luxurious materials with a bold organic design characteristic of Italian lighting from the period.

The spherical body is formed from clear Murano glass and decorated with a repeating arrangement of textured white panels framed by rich gold aventurine inclusions. The contrast between the translucent crystal-clear ground, the heavily textured white elements, and the shimmering gold decoration creates a remarkable depth and luminosity, particularly when illuminated.

Resting upon a brass base, the lamp possesses a strong sculptural quality even when unlit. Once illuminated, the textured glass diffuses the light beautifully, while the gold aventurine catches and reflects the glow, creating a warm and atmospheric effect. Combining traditional Murano techniques with the bold aesthetic of 1970s Italian design, the lamp functions equally well as a source of ambient lighting and as a decorative object in its own right.

Condition is good overall, with wear commensurate with age and use, including minor surface marks and light age-related wear to the brass base. The lamp is in good decorative order. Please refer to the photographs.
