An Accolay resin and botanical table lamp, France, circa 1970
A striking and highly decorative table lamp produced by Accolay, France, circa 1970. Exemplifying the experimental spirit of French design during the late 1960s and 1970s, the lamp combines natural organic materials with sculptural resin casting to create a truly distinctive statement piece.
The tall cylindrical shade is formed from clear cast resin, dramatically embedding an arrangement of dried flowers, leaves and butterflies within a textured crystalline ground. The illuminated composition transforms into a glowing botanical display when lit, highlighting the intricate natural specimens and creating a warm, atmospheric light. The matching square base echoes the same technique, incorporating pressed flowers beneath a textured resin panel framed with decorative gilt detailing and studded trim.
Combining elements of natural history, decorative arts and mid-century French craftsmanship, the lamp embodies the organic aesthetic popularised by Accolay during the period. Both functional and sculptural, it serves equally well as ambient lighting and as a striking decorative object.
