A pair of leather armchairs by Poltrona Frau, Italy, 1970s

£1,795.00

A handsome pair of Italian armchairs produced by Poltrona Frau in the 1970s, upholstered in original tan leather with a wonderfully soft, supple feel. The design is generous and deeply comfortable, with broad rolled arms, thick seat cushions and supportive backrests, all resting on turned wooden bun feet. The proportions and construction reflect Poltrona Frau’s mastery of luxury seating, balancing classic form with relaxed mid-century comfort.

Founded in 1912 by Renzo Frau, Poltrona Frau is one of Italy’s most prestigious furniture manufacturers, internationally celebrated for its uncompromising craftsmanship and exceptional leatherwork. Drawing early inspiration from British Chesterfield sofas, the company developed a distinctive identity rooted in artisanal production and refined silhouettes. By the mid-20th century, Poltrona Frau furnishings were found in aristocratic residences, luxury liners and important institutional interiors, and the brand remains synonymous with enduring quality and timeless Italian design.

Condition: vintage condition consistent with age and use, with visible scuffs, surface wear and areas of water staining to the leather. Despite this, the leather remains supple and comfortable, with the wear adding character and a desirable patina. Please refer to photographs.
