A pair of Edwardian silver plated “Hiawatha” photograph frames, England, early 20th century
A striking pair of early 20th century Edwardian silver-plated photograph frames, made in England and decorated with scenes inspired by Hiawatha. Each frame features detailed repoussé work depicting a Native American figure in a woodland landscape, framed by flowing Art Nouveau style borders. Along the lower edge appears the inscription: “Fan the fire of friendship and the wind will feed the flames.”
The expressive relief work, combined with the shaped outline and rich surface detail, makes these frames both decorative and collectible. The reverse sides are finished with solid oak backs and traditional fittings, adding warmth and period authenticity.
Condition: good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Light surface scratches, minor tarnish and rubbing to the silver plate consistent with age. Oak backs show natural wear and patina. Please refer to photographs.
Dimensions: 28cm high, 19cm wide
