A silver plated Dubarry pattern canteen for 12 persons, England, 1930s

£795.00

This exceptional silver-plated canteen of cutlery, dating from circa 1930 England, offers a complete service for twelve in the elegant Dubarry pattern. Each piece, comprising table forks, dessert spoons, dinner knives with stainless blades, soup spoons, fish knives, and serving implements, features the pattern’s signature stylised scrolls, richly rendered in silver plate. Housed in its original fitted box with plush velvet lining and secure clasp, the set remains in outstanding condition, its warm patina a testament to its age and quality.

Named after Madame du Barry, the famed 18th-century French courtesan, the Dubarry pattern embodies the Rococo revival that captivated late Victorian and Edwardian England. Renowned silver manufacturers in Sheffield and Birmingham popularised the design, which balanced elaborate decoration with practical usability. Today, Dubarry-patterned canteens are highly sought by collectors for their historic charm and decorative flair.
