A pair of Venetian canal scene oil paintings by Aldo Grossi, Italy, early 20th century

£695.00

A charming pair of Italian oil paintings by Aldo Grossi, dating to the early 20th century, depicting two iconic Venetian views. Executed in oil on board in a warm, atmospheric palette, the compositions capture the timeless beauty of Venice with lively street figures, gondolas, and celebrated landmarks.

One painting portrays the Ponte dei Scalzi, with elegantly dressed figures strolling along the canal as gondolas pass beneath the bridge. The companion work depicts the Piazzetta San Marco, centred on the imposing Column of Saint Theodore, with the Venetian lagoon, moored gondolas, and classical architecture beyond. Together, the paintings form a harmonious pair celebrating two of Venice's most recognisable scenes.

Both works are signed Aldo Grossi to the lower left and are presented in their original giltwood frames with decorative corner mouldings, complementing the traditional character of the paintings. Rich in architectural detail and bathed in soft Mediterranean light, they are fine examples of Italian decorative painting from the period.

Presented in good antique condition, each painting displays an attractive network of age-related craquelure, together with minor surface wear and patination consistent with age. The original gilt frames exhibit rubbing, wear, and small losses to the gilding, all contributing to their authentic period charm. Please refer to the photographs for details of condition.
