A pair of vintage hand-painted ceramic pitchers, Italy, mid 20th century

£125.00

A beautiful pair of vintage Italian ceramic pitchers, hand-painted with traditional floral and grapevine motifs in warm raspberry and rose tones against a white glazed ground.

Featuring elegant pouring spouts, sturdy handles, rounded bulbous bodies and gently footed bases, these charming jugs embody the warmth and character of traditional Italian country pottery. The hand-painted decoration showcases stylised grape clusters, trailing vines and floral motifs, themes associated with Italy's agricultural heritage and vineyard culture.

The two pitchers vary slightly in size and shape, creating a naturally complementary pair that displays beautifully together while retaining the individuality of handmade ceramics. Their softly crazed glaze and subtle variations in decoration add to their authentic rustic appeal.

Produced in Italy during the mid to late 20th century, these decorative ceramic pitchers were a familiar feature in Italian homes throughout the 20th century. Influenced by regional maiolica traditions, they combined practical everyday use with cheerful hand-painted decoration inspired by the countryside. Grapevines, fruit clusters, flowers and scrolling foliage were particularly popular motifs, celebrating Italy's long agricultural and winemaking heritage while bringing colour and artistry to the family table.

Today, they make versatile decorative pieces. Display them on a kitchen shelf or dining table, fill them with fresh or dried flowers, or use them as statement pitchers in a country house, Mediterranean or rustic interior.

Condition: both pitchers are in good vintage condition, displaying expected signs of age and use consistent with their age. Please refer to photographs.
