A "Nemours" glass bowl by Lalique, France, mid to late 20th century

£650.00

The Nemours bowl is a celebrated design by René Lalique, first introduced in 1929 and widely regarded as an outstanding example of Lalique’s mastery of moulded glass. The bowl features a gently curved form decorated with a repeating pattern of stylised floral rosettes in relief, each punctuated by small dark accents that create depth and rhythm across the surface. The satin finished glass, contrasted with subtle polished highlights, reflects Lalique’s distinctive approach to texture and light, combining decorative richness with refined modernity. Produced by Lalique in France, the Nemours model sits firmly within the late Art Deco period and exemplifies René Lalique’s ability to merge natural motifs with elegant geometric order, resulting in a design that remains both sculptural and timeless.

Based on the form of the signature shown, which appears to read “Lalique France”, the bowl most likely dates to the period after the death of René Lalique in 1945 when the company marked works in this way, under the leadership of his son Marc and the modern Lalique company. Pieces marked “Lalique France” are representative of postwar crystal production rather than the earlier “R. Lalique” signatures used during René’s lifetime, and this postwar identification helps place the age of the bowl within the mid twentieth century.
