A silver plated ice pail in the form of an orange, Italy, 1960s
A sculptural silver plated ice pail modelled as a naturalistic orange, produced in Italy around the 1960s. The body features a finely textured surface replicating the fruit’s skin, topped with a fitted lid surmounted by a stylised stem and leaf handle. The playful yet refined design reflects the Italian taste for witty barware combined with skilled metalwork, making the piece both functional and decorative. The interior is smooth and well suited for use as an ice bucket or cocktail accessory, while the exterior retains a strong visual presence.
Produced by Teghini of Florence, a maker recognised for high quality silver plated decorative objects and tableware in the mid to late 20th century. Teghini’s work is characterised by careful craftsmanship and imaginative forms, drawing on Florence’s long tradition of metalworking while embracing the expressive spirit of postwar Italian design.
Condition: overall good vintage condition with light surface wear and minor marks consistent with age and use. The silver plate shows gentle patina.
Dimensions: 21cm high, 15cm diameter
