A very large Italian sweet shop glass bowl, Sperlari, Italy, 1960s
A very large glass bowl originally used in Italian sweet shops to display and sell the famous Sperlari sweets. Dating from the 1960s, the bowl is distinguished by its generous proportions and elegant pedestal form, with the original red Sperlari lettering to the glass. Originally intended for commercial use, it can be repurposed today as an impressive punch bowl or a decorative centrepiece.
Sperlari is one of Italy’s most historic confectionery houses, founded in Cremona in 1836 by Enea Sperlari. Renowned for its high-quality sweets and artisanal approach, the company became especially famous for products such as torrone, fruit jellies, and hard candies, which were traditionally sold loose in dedicated sweet shops throughout Italy. By the mid-20th century, Sperlari had established a strong visual identity and a nationwide presence, with branded glass display bowls like this one becoming an instantly recognisable feature of Italian pasticcerie and confectioners.
