An impressive Italian plaster portrait bust of an unidentified gentleman, attributed to the sculptor Riccardo Secchi.

The bust depicts a distinguished gentleman with a prominent curled moustache, closely cropped hair and a composed, authoritative expression. He is portrayed wearing a formal three-piece suit, with a double-breasted waistcoat, jacket and bow tie. The naturalistic modelling captures the sitter's individual features, while the carefully rendered folds and details of his clothing lend the sculpture a strong sense of character and presence.

Riccardo Secchi (1871–1938) was an Italian sculptor celebrated for his portraiture, commemorative sculptures and public monuments. Working primarily during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he became known for his expressive and naturalistic modelling, particularly in his depictions of prominent historical and cultural figures. His works include several important public monuments in Italy, notably in Reggio Emilia, reflecting his reputation as a sculptor of considerable technical skill and artistic sensitivity.

The plaster retains an attractive aged surface, with subtle variations in colour and texture that emphasise the expressive modelling. The reverse features a recessed rectangular panel, forming part of the original construction.

Condition: in good antique condition, with surface wear, discolouration, chips and losses to the plaster, particularly around the lower edges and shoulders. Please refer to photographs.
