An unusual mid-century carved wooden half-hull model of a sailing yacht, signed “REGUIN 1961” to the lower right.

The model is constructed from contrasting timbers, with the long, finely shaped hull projecting in relief from a rectangular solid-wood backboard. The simplified treatment of the hull and keel, combined with the prominent natural grain of the timber, gives the piece a particularly sculptural quality.

Half-hull models originated as practical tools used by shipwrights and naval architects to establish and refine the lines of a vessel before construction. By the mid-20th century they were also produced as presentation pieces and decorative maritime models, valued for their elegant, almost abstract forms.
