An attractive English reverse-painted glass hunting picture entitled Hunting, Plate II – The Chase, dating from the 19th century.

The lively composition depicts a traditional fox hunt in full cry, with a large pack of hounds racing across open countryside followed by mounted huntsmen in red coats. Further riders can be seen descending the wooded hillside beyond, the expansive landscape rendered beneath a dramatic yellow-green sky.

The title beneath reads “HUNTING Plate II. / The Chase”, accompanied by a verse describing the pursuit. The rich colour, strong contrasts and characteristically glossy surface are particularly effective when viewed through the glass.

Presented in a period moulded wooden frame with gilt slip.

Condition: in good antique condition with age-related wear, marks and some deterioration consistent with the technique and age. The frame has expected wear and losses. Please refer to photographs.
