A stylish vintage porcelain ashtray by Hermès Paris, dating from the second half of the 20th century.
Of rectangular form with two cigarette rests, the ashtray is decorated with a finely detailed maritime scene depicting a three-masted sailing ship at sea, flying the French tricolour. The design is framed by green and gilt borders, with further gilt detailing around the rim.
The side bears the gilt ‘HERMÈS PARIS’ signature. Maritime and equestrian subjects featured prominently among Hermès decorative objects of this period, and these substantial porcelain ashtrays are now particularly sought after as decorative desk and table accessories.
Condition: in good vintage condition with surface wear, scratches and marks consistent with age and use, including some wear to the gilt decoration. Please refer to photographs
