A teak modular wall system, Italy, 1960s
An impressive Italian modular wall storage and shelving system dating from the 1960s, combining warm teak cabinetry and shelves with a slender black metal framework.
The extensive arrangement comprises three storage cabinets, including a central bank of five drawers and two larger cupboards, together with numerous open shelves positioned at varying heights. One cabinet opens to reveal a fitted interior with shelving and a fall-front work surface, making it particularly suitable for use as a compact home bar, writing desk or display cabinet. The distinctive black geometric handles provide a striking contrast against the richly figured teak veneers.
Designed with versatility in mind, the individual components are supported on upright metal ladder frames, allowing the shelves and cabinets to form a substantial architectural storage and display composition. The combination of clean lines, floating volumes and contrasting materials is characteristic of Italian modernist furniture of the period.
