A Murano glass vase, Italy, late 20th century
A vibrant and highly decorative Murano glass vase dating to the late 20th century, showcasing the bold colours and expressive techniques for which the Venetian island's glassmakers are internationally renowned. Sculptural in form and rich in movement, the vase serves equally well as a functional vessel and as a striking work of art.
The organically shaped body is executed in swirling tones of red, orange, amber, and white, creating a dynamic composition that evokes flowing flames or molten glass in motion. Scattered throughout the surface are colourful millefiori-style inclusions, adding depth, texture, and visual interest while demonstrating the technical skill involved in its production.
The vase is crowned by a dramatic undulating rim in deep ruby red, whose freeform silhouette enhances the sculptural quality of the piece. The interplay of colour, transparency, and layered decoration creates a constantly changing appearance as light passes through the glass.
Combining traditional Murano glassmaking techniques with a distinctly contemporary aesthetic, the vase is a bold statement piece that would bring colour and character to any interior.
Condition is good overall, with no apparent chips, cracks, or restorations visible under normal inspection. Minor surface wear consistent with age and handling may be present. Please refer to the photographs.
